French Polynesia

French Polynesia consists of 118 small islands and atolls spread over four million square kilometres of ocean to the east of the Cook Islands and Samoa. It is virtually scattered from the equator to the Tropic of Capricorn.

The country is grouped into the Society Islands, Austral Islands, Marquesas Islands, Gambier Islands and Tuamotu Archipelago, which includes Muroroa Atoll. The Society Islands, where Tahiti is located, is further divided into the leeward and windward isles. Tahiti is home to over half French Polynesia's population.
