American, Asian and European journalists are waxing lyrical about what New Zealand has to offer and the general tone can be summed up by Australian journalist Margie Blok’s declaration: 'NZ certainly is the hot destination right now!' (Source: Tourism News , 01 May 2003) Kiwis lure Aussie tourists New Zealand is embarking on a multi-million dollar campaign to lure Australians for short holidays in New Zealand. The 18 month campaign, which has just been launched in Australia, is the largest ever joint venture for Tourism New Zealand and Air New Zealand. New Zealand, already the number one destination for Australians, is ideal because of its proximity to Australia and its size means the country could be enjoyed in a week-long break. More than 570,000 Australians visited New Zealand last year. (Source: SPTO, February 2001) French Polynesia and Air New Zealand negotiating air links Negotiations between French Polynesia and New Zealand officials aimed at reaching an agreement on air links have started, the French Polynesian government announced. The bilateral talks are focusing on allowing a fourth Air New Zealand flight to London via Pape'ete, thus increasing the number of potential tourists to the French territory. Another item high on the agenda is a possible code-sharing agreement between French Polynesia's flag carrier, Air Tahiti Nui and one or more airlines operating out of New Zealand.
