Tropical Fiji Islands
The lure of tropical islands is an omniprescent romantic idea present in the minds of travellers from all walks of life. Childhood tales such as Robinson Crusoe and the Swiss Family Robinson are reinforced as we grow older with movies both romantic as well as intriguing. Consider the Blue Lagoon movies, Castaway with Tom Hanks or Truman, ensnared in a capsule of fantasy day to day life but inherently pulled by his own tropical island fantasy of Fiji!
The Fiji Islands typifies one's notion of a South Seas island paradise, combining blue skies, white sand beaches, blue lagoons and coconut palms with a romantic historical background of Melanesian canoes, village settlements, trading schooners, Captain Cook and castaways.
It is not surprising to find in the 21st century, therefore, that thousands of holidaymakers annual choose their vacation on an island in the tropics. The countries of the South Pacific region all have beautiful island getaways, but Fiji is the crossroads when it comes to access by air. As a result it offers the largest number of hotels and resorts. It also has over 330 island locations and while not every one is inhabited, a large number of them have provided holiday escapes for travellers.
The intrinsic quality of an island is that one is cut off from reality and can abandon the stresses of everyday life and succomb to the joys of relaxation and rejuvenation. It also means that the ocean is all around, which has a tranquilising effect on the mind. Add to this mix a good quantity of blue skies and palm-fringed beaches and you have the perfect Crusoe getaway!
