Fishing Vacations in Fiji
To those who enjoy angling, there is nothing quite as perfect as putting up the sign " gone fishin' ". From seasoned professionals to amateurs, from elderly retiree die-hards to young children, there is something about this hobby or sport (call it what you will) that is quintessentially enjoyable and relaxing. Tales of the ones that got away, mixed with photos of record-breaking catches, record angling adventures. For some it not so much a sport as a way of life in bringing home nautical foodstuffs for the evening meal or barbecue.
Some of the world's top spots that are enjoyed by fishermen include trout and salmon streams in cooler climates as well as the local jetty or riverbank. Challenges can be found in all countries - just add water and mix!
Fiji Islands offers challenging fishing vacations, with game fishing, sport fishing and even fly fishing available from both local as well as dedicated professional operations. Catch of the day could be Wahoo, Walu, Giant Trevally, Snapper, Mahi Mahi or even Marlin. And who can forget the succulent Yellow Fin Tuna, fresh from the sea and cooked the same day! Some great trips can be found in the north of Fiji out of Taveuni island as well as Savusavu on nearby Vanua Levu. Kadavu in the south of Fiji is also a good destination, with some remote areas with plentiful fish supplies. Pacific Harbour - adventure capital of Fiji as they say - offers top-class options also. Of course, trips are not confined to those three areas and most resorts and hotels can arrange half and full day trips on request, plying the waters close by.
If you like the feel of a fly rod, then head to the central Yasawas, with regular trips being operated out of Tavewa island. Using a handline to catch fish can be organised at almost all destinations in Fiji and can be great fun for kids and amateurs to try their hand.
