Fiji Hotels
This kind of accommodation in Fiji is found mostly on the main island, as on the outer islands one mostly finds vacation resorts and beachfront homes or bures. The exception are two properties found in the north of Fiji, one in Savusavu and another on the island of Taveuni. These were built originally by the Travelodge group, but over the years have become independently-run each providing comfortable rooms with a Fijian ambience, especially the smaller one in Taveuni known as the Garden Island Resort, which is right on the waterfront and has its own dive shop right on the property. The one in Savusavu is known as the Hot Springs, getting its name from the natural hot springs that bubble out of the ground in many spots in that area.
On the main island of Viti Levu there are many choices, especially in all the main population centres such as Nadi, the capital Suva, and Lautoka. Along the Coral Coast between Nadi and Suva in the south, are a number of large resort hotels, including the Shangri-La's Fijian Resort, the Outrigger Lagoon Resort, the Naviti and The Warwick. These properties are full resort-style destinations.
The Nadi options provide a range of accommodation for both leisure and business travellers and since it is the gateway point for visitors arriving and leaving the islands, the properties are often used for one-night stays either by tourists en route to and from the outer islands, or by passengers in transit across the South Pacific. Suva's hoteliers provide primarily business travel accommodation as the capital is not so well-known as a tourist destination. However, it does attract tourists who visit Suva for a few days to see the sights or do shopping, or visitors in the capital to visit friends or family who live here. Lautoka, north of Nadi, is a smaller centre, but though smaller here they do accommodate leisure and business travellers also.
By far the most well-known Fiji hotels are those found on the resort island of Denarau, within easy reach of Nadi International Airport. Although Denarau island is technically in Nadi, it is known in its own name rather than being part of the hustle and bustle of Nadi. This integrated resort destination features all the famous hotel names of Sheraton, Sofitel, Radisson, Hilton, Westin and WorldMark Trendwest.
