Dining & Entertainment
At night, when you hear the beat of the ’lali’ follow the golden trail of torches leading you to the ’burekalou’ - an open temple turned dining room. Here you can enjoy world-class cuisine and fine wines while listening to the sweet Fijian songs of the band boys and watch the ’Meke’ Ceremony. Our house band mixes cava for guests every night, and we also have a traditional cava ceremony and Meke night each week.
The cuisine at Qamea is world class! Our Resort Manager, Tracy Purcell, along with her team of five Fijian chefs, are famous for preparing some of the finest dishes in all of Fiji. Our emphasis is on healthy Pacific Rim style cuisine, with specialties that include local lobster, crab, and ocean fish, supplemented by a wide selection of tropical fruits. Our full bar service and wide selection of fine Australian and New Zealand wines will be a delight to your palette! Given the expertise of our chefs, we are able to accomodate most special dietary requirements.
Activities
The island has many delights. You can do what you like or nothing at all. Being close to the cooling breezes of the southeast trades, Qamea offers excellent Hobie Cat sailing. There is no additional charge for use of snorkeling equipment, sail boards, sail boats and sea kayaks, but it is quite possible that just lazing on the beach is all the activity that you’ll require. We also have a new fully accredited Guinot Jungle Spa, offering a full menu of massage and body treatments. For the fishermen and fisherwomen, we can also easily arrange deep sea and reef fishing.
The water is warm and inviting. Snorkeling on the house reef is a pleasure enjoyed by everyone. If you want to learn to dive, we have a fully PADI & SSI accredited dive operation ready to teach you in a professional and friendly way.
Guests may also enjoy the free-form fresh water swimming pool, or enjoy a game of croquet on the lawns. We also have a gym with weights and cardio equipment.
To make sure that the resort’s facilities are enjoyed to the fullest, Qamea’s full time Activities Manager along with all our friendly Fijian staff, are always happy to take guests fishing, crabbing, hiking ... or even home to their village.
Off-island trips include a visit to the Bouma Waterfalls, the famous Lavena coastal hike, and private picnic lunches on remote beaches and uninhabited islands.
Diving
Qamea has been nominated by Rodale’s Scuba Dive Magazine as one of the ’Ten Best Snorkelling Reefs’. The scuba diving is equally world famous with such local dive sites as the Purple Wall, Devil’s Canyon and Qamea Freeway - in fact, there are more than 20 excellent quality dive experiences for novices through to experts within a short boat ride of the resort. The resort offers scuba courses and full equipment rental.
