Description
Sunrise Beach self contained bungalows offer quality and location at an affordable price, with a choice of both ocean front and garden settings.
Location
Muri Beach is considered the nicest beach on Rarotonga, and for good reasons. Here the lagoon is at its widest. The water is warm and clear. It is the only beach with little islets [known locally as Motu]. Our guests like to picnic or explore this area then head back to Sunrise for quiet relaxation or wine on the oceanfront sundeck or beside the pool. In the other direction the main township of Avarua is 12 kms away [airport 14 kms]
GETTING AROUND: We can help organize car or motorbike hire and get you the best island deals. If you are more energetic hire a bicycle from Sunrise at only NZ$6 per day. All the major tours stop at or outside the Sunrise for your convenience. Buses stop at the end of Sunrise driveway in either direction hourly, cost is just a few dollars for one stop or right round the island. One thing in Rarotonga is that nowhere is very far away!
Accommodation
All units are self catering with TV, Radios, Fans, ceiling Fans, with guest swimming pool, free laundry and hot water.
Recently we have thatched the roofs in traditional kikau [coconut fronds] for that authentic Pacific Island feel. Sunrise Beach caters for both the independent traveller and families who want to get away from it all and relax in comfort. We are located down a long drive so there is no road noise.
AIRCONDITIONING units into the bungalows at the cost of $20 NZ per day which is an extra $140 per week on top of their accommodation.
Dining & Entertainment
Sunrise Beach Bungalows are self-catering. Shops are close by.
EATING OUT/ LOCAL NIGHTLIFE: Some of the best restaurants on the island are close-by, The Flame Tree, Sails and Sandals. The Beachfront Café at the well known Pacific Resort is set right on the beach with an extensive food menu and wine list. A great place to relax and gaze out across the wide lagoon.
Nightlife is not a central focus of our surrounding area outside of the main resorts and restaurants.
The Pacific Resort does have a weekly ’Island Night’ Buffet and Show featuring local dance and music. These are open to the general public at a one off cost.
Facilities
We try to be as user friendly as possible with our guests check in/out times due to the awkward flight arrival/departures into Rarotonga. Where ever possible we will endeavor that our guests have the use the Sunrise facilities until time of departure without incurring any extra costs.
Activities
Our swimming pool is set in the garden surrounded by lawn and colourful shrubs, guests can relax on the outside furniture/loungers and at the end of a busy day exploring Rarotonga cook up some fresh fish on one of our 2 barbeques. The pool is 1.8 metres deep.
WATERSPORTS: We are located close to what is locally considered the best swimming beach on the island. The Sailing Club and Windsurfing School are just down the road from us, as is the starting point for glass bottomed boat lagoon & snorkeling tours. Kayaks can also be hired.
