MIKE'S DIVERS - SEE THE REAL FIJI !
Mike's Divers is situated on the famous Coral Coast on the main island of Viti Levu, and central to the main resorts along this coastline. In addition to their diving facilities, they are expanding their focus on eco-tourism activities to provide you with the experience of seeing the "REAL" Fiji! They can arrange homestays at the local village of Votualevu. The American Directors (both certified teachers)/pilot, live and work in the Votua Village while in Fiji. As a cooperative project, all of the employees are from the village of Votua and PADI trained. $5.00 for every tank used goes to the Village Fund. Mike's Divers.

REEF CHECK PROGRAMME UNDERWAY IN TAVEUNI
Volunteers from West Valley High School, Fairbanks, Alaska, joined forces with dive staff from Garden Island Island Resort (Aqua-Trek) and Aquaventure Dive Centre to take part in a Reef Check Training and Reef Survey programme in Taveuni, last month. Reef check is developing a Fiji-wide network of dive resorts able to monitor and record the health of their own coral reefs, and also encourages visiting volunteers to become involved in the surveys. Reef Check Volunteers wishing to visit Taveuni and take part in the surveys can contact Garden Island Island Resort (Aqua-Trek) or Aquaventure Dive Centre

HYPERBARIC REFERRAL CENTRE NOW OPEN - FIJI ISLANDS
Divers in need of urgent assistance can now be treated at the Fiji National Hyperbaric Referral Centre in Suva. Located at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, the Centre has successfully treated a number of divers since it was officially opened last June. The Centre is run by Medical Director, Dr. Ali Birbo and is open 24 hours a day for diving emergencies, commercial, tourist and sport diving. It also offers clinic hyperbaric treatments of mom-healing wound, skin grafts, smoke inhalation, diabetic ulcers and more. (Source: Fiji Visitors Bureau, January 2002)
KORO SUN RESORT NAMES COUSTEAU FOR DIVE OPERATION - FIJI ISLANDS
Koro Sun Resort located in Savusavu on Fiji’s second largest island Vanua Levu, has appointed L’Aventure Jean Michel Cousteau as its new dive operator. It has also announced the appointment of Cousteau’s reservation manager, Randy Gardner to head its reservation operation out of San Francisco. The resort is managed by Margie Kotoisuva and Kapena Nelson. Additionally, the resort is hosting a Wakeboard and Waterski week from November 20-29 this year.

VOTUA VILLAGE ECO PROJECT WITH 'MIKE'S DIVERS' - FIJI ISLANDS
An Eco project with the Village of Votua, Korolevu has been chosen to be a part of the Coral Reef Alliance Dive Operator Recognition Programme. In order to be a part of this programme, dive operators must pledge and meet or exceed high environmental operating standards which includes:Environmental Orientations for guests, following environmental ruls and regulations and the practice of environmental procedures in moorings and boating. Mike's Divers was part of the World Wide Earth Day Dive-In on April 21st, sponsored by Coral Reef Alliance. Over 4,000 divers world wide participated in an Earth Day activity to help care for the environment. On this occasion local divers in Fiji participated with Mike's Divers Earth Day Dive-In were offered free tanks and equipment to help clean the Votua Lagoon. Non-divers were given the opportunity to assist by cleaning the beaches and shallow waters. Mike's Divers is currently offering a SPECIAL DIVE PACKAGE.

GARDEN ISLAND RESORT (Fiji) WINS AWARD - #2 BEST DIVE RESORT WORLDWIDE
Garden Island Resort was recently awarded the 2001 Rodale's Scuba Diving Readers' Choice Award rated #2 Best Dive Resort Worldwide. Aqua-Trek Tavueni, the Resort's on-site PADI Gold Palm dive facility was awarded #8 Best Dive Operator in the Pacific and Indian Oceans. In both cases, the resort and dive facility were the only operators to place in Fiji. In 1999, Garden Island Resort rated in the top 15 Best Dive Resorts Worldwide, again, the only resort in Fiji to be awarded this level. Fiji was rated in the top five Indo Pacific "Best Macro Life" destinations, and in the top 5 "Best Destination Value" for that region.
