SOUTH PACIFIC AIR PASS FOR EUROPE MARKET Air New Zealand has introduced the South Pacific air pass. It allows clients to fly at fixed prices inside New Zealand, between New Zealand and Australia and between New Zealand and Tahiti, Fiji, Tonga, Cook Islands, New Caledonia, Norfolk Island and Samoa. The air pass is only available to clients from Europe and is valid through to April 30 2003. Prices start at 60 Euro for domestic New Zealand flights and end at 199 Euro for flights between New Zealand and South Pacific Islands. Air New Zealand’s manager for the Pacific Islands, John Whittaker, said that the changes are in response to requests from various groups within the travel industry who find the current Tonga-Honolulu service somewhat restrictive with regard to US mainland travel. "Air New Zealand is committed to support inbound tourism in Tonga and, following discussions with inbound tourist operators in Tonga, have decided a direct connection with Los Angeles is preferable to the current connection via Honolulu," he said. Whittaker said the new Los Angeles service will better support tourist traffic from Europe and North America and will connect with Air New Zealand's services to and from London. Air New Zealand will continue to operate its existing four services between Auckland and Tonga and will provide additional capacity for holiday travellers over the Christmas/New Year period. The new equipment includes updated boarding pass printers and the introduction of baggage tag printers. The new equipment which went live on June 9th, has received favourable comments from customers.
