What to See and Do The eastern coastline of this region is known as the Côte Blanche (White Coast). These waters are swept by the trade winds (prevailing winds) and are well-suited for windsurfing. There is also good windsurfing and other water sports at Anse Vata beach. The Caledonian sailing school is situated here - courses and equipment hire are available. Best time of year regarding wind is from November to March. Anse Vata has two kilometers of white sand beach and is situated 10 min from the town center of Noumea. Recognised as Noumea's most beautiful beach, most of the hotels and casinos can be found here along the bay. At sunset most Noumeans get together at the fitness trail of the promenade Pierre Vernier. For walking, running or family strolls, the few kilometers along the coast lined with superb coconut palms is one of the most pleasant sites in the capital. Duck Island, set in the middle of the lagoon at Anse Vata is a great day trip for picnicking, diving, or just lazing around. It takes a matter of minutes to get there by taxi-boat, with departures from the beach about every ten minutes. |
