SAMOA INTERNATIONAL GAME FISHING TOURNAMENT 2007 The dates for the Samoa International Game Fishing Tournament, the 12th tournament, are set for 6th - 12th May 2007. Keen anglers from the fishing fraternity across the South Pacific region will meet to do battle once again the strong competition provided by the home Samoan team! Newly opened Le Vasa Resort are to host the opening ceremony so book early to be part of the action. For further information contact Russell McIntosh (Sales Manager) (Source: Russell McIntosh, September 2003) TRANS TASMAN FISHING CHALLENGE IN SAVUSAVU The inaugural Trans Tasman Fiji Fishing Challenge was held in Savusavu, Vanua Levu on October 26 through to October 27. The Fishing Challenge was organised by Beachcomber Cruises, Driftwood Resort and Hot Springs Savusavu The Challenge attracted teams that included tourism personalities from Australia and New Zealand. The purpose of the Challenge was to promote Savusavu as a fishing destination in Fiji. (Source: Fiji Visitors Bureau, October 2002) 8th SAMOA INTERNATIONAL GAME FISHING TOURNAMENT DATES SET FOR 2003 The 8th Samoa International Game Fishing Tournament will take place from 12th - 17th May 2003. This year's tournament held last month attracted anglers from around the Pacific - American Samoa, Australia, New Zealand, America and Tokelau to compete against the local Samoa team. Country standings at the end of the tournament were: 1st American Samoa (390.83 points); 2nd Australia (257.68); 3rd America (252.77); 4th Samoa (180.69); 5th Tokelau (189.03) and 6th New Zealand (135.14). (Source: Tala Samoa, September 2002) ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL BILLFISH CLASSIC - Vanuatu The Annual International Billfish Classic will be held at Port Vila on October 19-20 (Source: Vanuatu Tourism Product Update, September 2002) SAFARI LODGE LAUNCHES NEW GAME FISHING BOAT - Fiji Islands Safari Lodge has launched a 21 foot new game fishing boat. Based at Ellington wharf, near Rakiraki the boat is capable of accessing new game fishing areas in the Vatu I Ra passage and the numerous reefs in the area. Ellington wharf is a two-hour drive from Nadi to Rakiraki on the Kings Road. The Safari Lodge can organise daily pickups from Nadi hotels for full day fishing trips. (Source: Fiji Visitors Bureau, September 2002) Royal Tongan Airlines International Game Fishing Tournament Successful - Tonga Game Fishing Event is assured of a place in the Annual Tourism Calendar of Events in Tonga following the success of the two international Game Fishing Tournament in Vava'u over the last two months. About 100 overseas and local anglers from as far as Ireland, Singapore, New Zealand and Australia came to fish in Vava'u. The latest tournament organized jointly by Royal Tongan Airlines and New Zealand Fishing News Magazine ran from 22 to 24 October and was based on the MV Oleanda in Vava'u. Based on the success of this tournament several anglers have already been booked for next year, which will be held next October in Vava'u. (Source: Royal Tongan Airlines via SPTO, November 2001) TWI CHOOSES KORO SUN FOR NEW TV SERIES - Fiji Islands A six-member crew from Trans World International (TWI) will complete the filming of a segment of its new television series "The Big Fish" at Koro Sun Resort in Savusavu, August 23. TWI is the world’s largest producer and distributor of sports programmes. It expects the series to be viewed by more than 200 million viewers in 50 countries. It will be shown on Lifestyle Channel in the United States, Discovery Channel in Asia and Latin America, Channel 10 in Australia and SKY-TV in the United Kingdom among others. No date has been set to launch the series. (Source: Fiji Visitors Bureau, August 2001) PACIFIC HARBOUR GAME FISHING TOURNAMENT - Fiji Islands The Vodafone 21st International Game Fishing Tournament held annually at Pacific Harbour is scheduled from August 23 – 29 this year. Anglers will fish for four days with fish categories including Marlin, Wahoo, Tuna, and Mahimahi. (Source: Fiji Visitors Bureau, June 2001) SPORTS FISHING CHALLENGE FOR JUNE AT SAVUSAVU - Fiji Islands The annual Air New Zealand Sports Fishing Challenge is scheduled from June 9 through June 14 at Savusavu. Fifty anglers from New Zealand, ten from Australia, and six from the United States have confirmed their participation, with $70,000 in prize money at stake.
