AIR PACIFIC ADDS SECOND WEEKLY SERVICE TO VANCOUVER VIA HONOLULU Good news for Canadians travelling to and from Fiji! Air Pacific have added a second service each week from Nadi to Vancouver and back, stopping in Honolulu. The service will involve a 160 passenger B737-800 aircraft and commences from 1st July 207. The fleet now operates under the banner " Pacific Sun " and operates out of Nadi International Airport carrying travellers to many destinations in the Fiji Islands. A B747-400 aircraft is being introduced on the Melbourne/Nadi service from June 5. The inaugural flight arrived in Nadi at 0845hrs. This has been a major strategic move by Korean Air to eliminate the Auckland leg of the normal services and replace with the twice weekly direct flights from Fiji. Currently, Korean Air flies on Thursdays and Sundays and departs at 1005hrs. There has been an increased seat capacity of 257 per flight. The national carrier is also expected to obtain another 747-400 and two 320 seat Airbus within the next two years. Initially the Boeing 747 will provide daily services between Nadi and Sydney. (Source: Fiji Visitors Bureau, April 2003) AIR NEW ZEALAND OFFERS SPECIAL FARES TO FIJI Air New Zealand has announced a new fare of $999 from Los Angeles to Nadi. The offer is good from April 1 through to April 24 2003, and is available for purchase by March 3 2003. Business class fares are $3,499. Children's fares are also available. (Source: Fiji Visitors Bureau, February 2003) AIR PACIFIC TO LAUNCH NEW WEEKLY SERVICE BETWEEN NADI AND HONOLULU Air Pacific will launch a new weekly B737-800 service between Nadi and Honolulu in December. Chief Executive Officer John Campbell said the new service will provide further opportunities for US visitors to travel to Fiji. Air Pacific also has two weekly services between Nadi and Vancouver via Honolulu. For further information contact John Campbell at Air Pacific (Source: Fiji Visitors Bureau, October 2002) AIR PACIFIC TO EXPAND ITS WINGS Air Pacific plans to increase its services to eventually offer daily flights to the United States, Japan and Australia. Air Pacific Chief Executive Officer John Campbell said the plans will be effected over eight years. The airlines market extension plans also identifies the United Kingdom, Europe, India and South East Asia as future markets. Meantime, Air Pacific is expected to complete its fleet study at the end of September. Company management is evaluating an aircraft with more than 400 seats to replace Boeing 747-200 and a 300 seat aircraft to replace the Boeing 767 aircraft. No decision has been made to buy any aircraft from Boeing or Airbus. (Source: Fiji Visitors Bureau, August 2002) SOUTH PACIFIC AIR PASS FOR EUROPE MARKET Air New Zealand has introduced the South Pacific air pass. It allows clients to fly at fixed prices inside New Zealand, between New Zealand and Australia and between New Zealand and Tahiti, Fiji, Tonga, Cook Islands, New Caledonia, Norfolk Island and Samoa. The air pass is only available to clients from Europe and is valid through to April 30 2003. Prices start at 60 Euro for domestic New Zealand flights and end at 199 Euro for flights between New Zealand and South Pacific Islands. (Source: Fiji Visitors Bureau, August 2002) AIR PACIFIC INCREASES FLIGHTS Air Pacific will increase its seat growth by 17% as follows: Japan: a 3rd weekly B767 service added on Saturday’s from April 20 resulting in a 50% increase in seats. North America: A 4th B747 weekly service Nadi/Los Angeles from June providing a 33% increase in seat capacity New Zealand: Ten services weekly Nadi/Auckland coupled with two Suva/Auckland and one Christchurch service with a growth in seats by 7% Australia: Three B767 Nadi/Melbourne services in place with two additional seasonal B737-800 added over winter months. Daily B747/B757 Nadi/Sydney and two B737-800 services Suva/Sydney while Nadi/Brisbane will gain seasonal operations of up to 5 B737-800 services per week. An overall increase of 12%. South Pacific: A second Nadi/Apia B737-800 has been added while a weekly service to Tonga and Nadi/Vila/Honiara is maintained using the B737-800. An additional Vila service is being considered. For further information, please contact John Campbell at AIR PACIFIC (Source: Fiji Visitors Bureau, May 2002) AFL TO UPGRADE NADI AND NAUSORI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORTS Work is expected to begin in June on the upgrade of both Nadi and Nausori International Airports. Thirty-two million dollars will be invested in the airports as well as in upgrading Labasa, Taveuni, and Savusavu domestic airports. Nadi will receive the greatest attention with $23 million to be spent on Fiji's primary airport. This will include work on the apron with new aerobridges, expanded commercial activities, and an upgrade of the terminal building, while Nausori will receive a complete upgrade and extension to the present terminal building. Work on both will be completed in 2003, in time to welcome participants to the South Pacific Games.
